Milwaukee 6955-20 12-Inch Miter Saw – Is it worth the $$

Milwaukee 6955-20 Miter Saw Review
If you aren’t familiar with the Milwaukee brand, let me just start out by saying that you have really been missing out. I’ve used every major brand of power tool on the market and Milwaukee tools consistently deliver in terms of performance, ease of use and durability. There’s just no comparison, so when I started looking at miter saws, it was a no brainer to take a good look at what they had to offer.
The Milwaukee 6955-20 is powered by their heavy duty 15A, 3.3 HP motor and features constant power technology with soft start,

which is great for providing constant cutting speed and reducing movement on startup. This model also performs a wide variety and range of cuts thanks to the dual bevel sliding compound design. It’s capable of miter cuts ranging from 0-55˚ left and 0-60˚ and bevel cuts from 0-48˚ to both the left and right.
This model also features convenient digital miter readout with accuracy down to 0.1 degree, dual integral jobsite lights that illuminate both sides of the blade and an integral dust channel that captures about 75% of dust and debris.
What to Look For When Buying a Miter Saw
Researching miter saws can be a real challenge because there are so many to choose from. If you want to make sure that you get the right one for your needs and avoid buyer’s remorse, it’s important to look past the marketing hype, and focus your attention on the four key criteria that I’ve listed below:
- Type (basic miter, compound miter, sliding compound miter)
- Capacity
- Portability
- Additional Features
Is The Milwaukee 6955-20 Miter Saw What You Need?
In the world of miter saws, flexibility is king and there is nothing more versatile than dual bevel sliding compound models like the Milwaukee 6955-20. This type of miter saw gives you the most capabilities and the widest range of cuts, which makes it an excellent choice for most buyers because you never have to worry about running into a project that it can’t handle. If it can be cut on a miter saw, then you’re going to be able to do it with the Milwaukee 6955-20 or any other dual bevel sliding compound model, period. You could go with a basic or standard compound model, but you run the risk of having to upgrade later when the limitations of those types prevent you from completing your project.
What Capacity Is Best For Your Needs?
12-inch miter saws like the 6955-20 give you the best capacity on the market, which is why they’re so popular. Miter saws do come in smaller sizes such as an 8-inch or 10-inch model, and Milwaukee does carry these too, but you aren’t going to be able to handle larger materials like you can with a 12-incher. And you can’t simply slap a larger blade into those smaller models, so if you go with them, you may find yourself having to upgrade down the road. That’s why many buyers go with a miter saw that has the best capacity right from the start.

Should You Go Cordless?

Generally speaking, unless you are constantly working in remote locations or job sites with no electricity, then it doesn’t really make sense to go with a cordless miter saw. Yes, they do offer greater portability, however it comes at a cost. To avoid being stuck with a dead miter saw halfway through the day, you’re going to need to keep at least one spare battery on hand and those large rechargeable batteries aren’t cheap. It makes much more sense to simply go with a corded model like the Milwaukee 6955-20 and break out an extension cord if needed.
What Other Features Do You Need?
Honestly, if you go with the Milwaukee 6955-20, there really aren’t any other features that you need because they’re already included. Milwaukee threw in dual integral jobsite lights to illuminate your work, soft start technology, digital miter readout and many other features that make your life and projects much easier.
How Much Should You Expect To Pay?
At first glance, it would be easy to think that this model is a bank buster thanks to all the features, but it is very affordable, whether you’re a professional contractor or just a weekend do-it-yourselfer.
What’s Included
- Milwaukee 6955-20 miter saw

What Others Are Saying About the Milwaukee 6955-20 Miter Saw
“I am a rough and trim carpenter and I got this saw about 5 months ago. I have used many different 12″ sliders from the new Makita, new Bosch, new DeWalt. This is the best one I have used. “
“We’ve used this saw for about 2 weeks now and have had a chance to become very familiar with it. The build quality is top-notch and it will power through anything you put in its path. “
“I love this saw! Very powerful and VERY accurate. I’m used to my P-C 10″ dual LASER saw, but I have nearly forgotten about that saw since I bought this one.”
“One of the best saws made. Smooth slide, true accurate cut, good lighting, good dust vacuum. I’ve had 2 other brands before this Milwaukee, they simply don’t compare. Worth the money paid.”
Any Problems or Complaints?
While conducting my research, the vast majority of reviews I encountered were positive. That being said, there were scattered complaints about the dust bag being too small (filled up after a few cross cuts), but that seemed to be a minor issue.
