FAQ:

1. What have you found to be the best miter saw for the money?

This is a broad question because people need and use a miter saw for different reasons. Some people are contractors/carpenters and may have different needs then someone who is a hobbyist. Below is a quick and dirty explanation of the two and why they may need something different.

  • Contractors/carpenters are most likely moving from job to job and will require a saw that can handle a lot of usage. In this instance one would need something that is more heavy duty, flexible, & easy to relocate. Based off feedback from contractors/carpenters, I would recommend getting a 12″ or 10″ sliding compound miter saw like the 10″  Hitachi C10FSH or the  12″ Milwaukee 6955-20. If these two are out of your price range then you may not want to get a sliding compound miter.
  • Hobbyist most likely are not moving around as often as a carpenter who has to relocate his/her miter saw to different locations and may or may not have as much usage. Also, the size of a hobbyists’ projects may be smaller then a carpenters would be as well. In this instance I would say you could do away with a sliding miter saw and stick with a stationary compound miter. In my opinion, I would still consider a 10″ because you never know if you are going to be handling larger projects and if so you will be covered with a saw that can handle it. My suggestions to the hobbyist are the 10″ Hitachi C10FCE2 or the 10″ DEWALT DW713

Please keep in mind these are just my opinions from user feedback and a very general stereotype of the needs for both groups.

2. Why are you suggesting we buy a miter saw online using Amazon.com?

This is also a very common question I get. Here is my answer:

Lets say you wanted to buy the very popular DEWALT DW716 miter saw from Lowe’s, harbor freight, or Home Depot. This is what you would find as far as prices. (Below are the prices at the time of this writing and are subject to change)

  • Lowe’s = $399 (no free shipping – depending on where you live this would increase the price)
  • Harbor Freight = not available
  • Home Depot = $399 (free shipping)
  • Amazon.com = $326.65 (Free Shipping with super saver shipping)

If you notice in our example above you are saving money. This is very common with Amazon.com not just with miter saws, but with many products in their vast catalog. I personally always compare my purchases against Amazon.com to see if I can save some money. More times than not, I do save money.

3. Peter, what have you found to be the best selling miter saw?
