Bosch 4212 Miter Saw Review | 12-Inch Dual-Bevel Compound Miter Saw

The 4212 is a 12-inch dual-bevel compound miter saw that definitely lives up to the Bosch name. It’s powered by Bosch’s beefy 15 amp, 3HP motor that spins the included carbide-tipped blade at 3800 RPM, allowing it to slice through even the toughest hardwoods like butter. It has a huge miter range of 0-52˚ both left and right, and bevel ranges of 0-47˚ to the left and 0-46˚ to the right, giving it incredible flexibility in terms of the cuts you can perform. As a bonus, the range selector and lock knobs are right up front where it’s most convenient. It also features a four position handle so that anyone can find a comfortable grip that suits them, and the scales are clear and legible to make adjustments a snap.
What to Look For When Buying a Miter Saw
Choosing the right miter saw for your needs can be a tricky proposition, especially when the manufacturers start throwing all kinds of features and options out to try and impress you. I’ve found that the best way to narrow your field of choices is to focus your attention on what I believe to be the four most important elements when it comes to selecting a miter saw:
- Type (basic miter, compound miter, sliding compound miter)
- Capacity
- Portability
- Additional Features
What Type Of Miter Saw Do You Need?
When it comes to miter saws, as with most things, the more flexible it is and the more options it has, the more expensive it’s going to be. Dual bevel compound miters like the Bosch 4212 offer the perfect balance between function and price. For the vast majority of users, the Bosch 4212 and other dual bevel compound miter saws will be able to handle any job you’re ever likely to throw at this type of machine. You could move up to a sliding compound miter saw, and Bosch carries these too, but you’re going to pay a lot more for a marginal increase in capabilities.
What Capacity Is Best For Your Needs?
In the world of miter saws, those with a 12-inch capacity are usually on top, except for a few unique exceptions. You could go with an 8-inch or 10-inch miter saw, but chances are you’re going to run into a project where they simply don’t have the capacity to handle the size and thickness of material you’re working with. By going with a 12-inch miter saw right from the start, you won’t have to worry about upgrading later because the Bosch 4212 and other 12-inchers are able to handle pretty much any size stock you’re likely to cut on this kind of tool.
Should You Go Cordless?
The debate between cordless vs. corded mostly comes down to common sense and personal preference. Cordless miter saws do give you added portability, but that convenience comes at a hefty price. If you want to avoid running out of power halfway through the day, chances are you’re going to need to purchase at least one more battery, and they aren’t cheap. They also need to be replaced as they wear down from repeated charges, significantly increasing the cost of ownership over time. Corded miters on the other hand don’t have that problem. And realistically, the vast majority of the time, you’re going to have access to an outlet nearby, or at least be in range of one with an extension cord.
What Other Features Do You Need?
Miter saws tend to sport a variety of optional features and fortunately, Bosch has seen fit to include many of them in this model, including sliding extensions, integrated work piece clamps, flip-up crown stops and the multi position handle.

Any Problems or Complaints?
While the reviews from owners of this model were largely positive, some users did feel that it was on the heavy size. However, I should note that given this miter saws capacity (12-inches) and other features, that is to be expected. It’s still easily moveable by one person.
